This Committee operates in accordance with the provisions contained in the Municipal Elections Act. This is a mandatory Committee. Members of Council do not serve on this Committee.
This Committee meets to consider compliance audit applications received from an elector by the Clerk. Applications can be filed after a Municipal Election. If the Committee feels that the application has merit, the Committee appoints an independent auditor to review the election expenses. They receive the auditor’s report and if the report concludes that there appears to be a contravention of the Municipal Elections Act, the Committee decides whether or not legal proceedings should be started.
The Committee of Adjustment is established under the authority of the Planning Act. The Committee considers minor variance applications. These are planning applications for minor deviations from the provisions of the Zoning By-Law. Members of Council may sit on the Committee but the Committee does not report to Council. The Committee considers planning reports and holds public meetings related to the minor variance applications and then makes binding decisions regarding whether or not a variance will be allowed. Appeals to decisions of the Committee of Adjustment are made to the Ontario Land Tribunal.
The Committee meets monthly but only if planning applications are received.
The Committee is established in accordance with the provisions contained in the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, and regulations thereto.
This Committee monitors and reviews the Emergency Plan and assists the Community Emergency Management Coordinator with public education, testing of the plan, arranging training for control group members and ensuring that the Town meets its annual compliance requirements.
Members of the public do not sit on this Committee.

Policing in South Bruce Peninsula
The Town of South Bruce Peninsula contracts Police Services with the Ontario Provincial Police. For emergencies contact 911. The local OPP detachment is located at:
Bruce Peninsula OPP 50 Berford St, Wiarton, ON N0H 2T0 Phone: 519-534-1323 Phone (24 hours): 1-888-310-1122 Fax: 519-534-1334
The OPP can receive emergency calls for service by text with 911 (T9-1-1) from people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or speech impaired (DHHSI) and for which the OPP is the Primary Public Safety Answering Point (P-PSAP).
The Ontario Provincial Police is pleased to offer Citizen Self Reportingan alternative reporting option that allows the public to report specific crimes to police via the internet, anywhere, anytime. The OPP’s Citizens Self Reporting system allows members of the public to use a computer or mobile device to report an incident without requiring an officer to attend the scene. Citizen Self Reporting is simple and convenient and can be used when reporting incidents that do not involve injury or a suspect, or a crime that is not an emergency. The use of this new system is completely optional. Police will still attend a call for service if desired.
Starting April 1, 2024, the Community Safety and Policing Act will be in place across Ontario. This means a change for the Grey Bruce OPP Detachment: they will now be overseen by a Joint Police Services Board. The Township of Georgian Bluffs provides staff resources to the Police Services Board. Please contact their municipal office directly with any questions you may have.

AED’s are small portable devices which are used to aid in a sudden cardiac arrest situation where paramedics have not yet arrived on scene. It should be noted that they are not to take the place of Emergency Services and the first step people should take in an emergency is to call 911.
AED units are easily powered on and then provide simple audio and/or visual prompts that lead the user through their proper use. AED’s are able to analyze activity of the heart and determine if an application of a shock would be beneficial.
Publicly Accessible Automated External Defibrillators in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula are located in the following locations and may not always be available subject to season and hours of operation of the facility and location. The Committee meets only when there is an appeal made to a Property Standards Order. By-Law Enforcement Officers issue Property Standards Orders when property does not conform to the standards outlined in the Property Standards By-Law. The Committee holds a hearing and receives evidence from the property owner and the By-Law Enforcement Officer. The Committee then decides whether they will uphold the Order as issued, quash the Order, or make changes to the Order. Decisions of the Property Standards Committee may be appealed to the Superior Court of Justice.
Members of Council do not sit on this Committee.
The Wiarton BIA is a local board established by Council by-law under the authority of the Municipal Act.
